Murder Mac and Cheese. Your Neighbor is Suspect

Monday? This leftist blood libel started on Saturday. Meghan Daum, LA Times visits the op-ed page of the Chicago Tribune:

If only we could go back to Monday. Discussions about Saturday's shootings in Tucson, Ariz., which killed six and wounded 13, including Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, were so much simpler then: inflamed, righteous and deliciously partisan in a comfort-food kind of way.

The fallout from the tragedy took a neat and predictable course:
No Meghan, I don't think so. This was not a normal reaction, even for the Left, which thinks as a matter of course that conservatives are stupid and evil--we are supposed to try to prove every day we're not. This was not the easy, comfort-food answer. Most Americans, shocked, said a prayer, they didn't rush to their keyboards and the airwaves to demonize their neighbors and essentially accuse a mother thousands of miles away of murder. "Righteous" and "deliciously partisan"? Are you sick?

No. It's not a cycle of violence as the Left likes to put things to evade personal responsibility. If you want to pretend to be even-handed, Ms. Daum, why not mention other maps in common use politically.

This was deadly malice, not mac and cheese.

This was character assassination of the American people by the elites, coastal and otherwise.

This time they made things up out of whole cloth. A total LIE.

There is nothing comforting about it.

And if you don't come clean about this rank dishonesty you are part of it.

Indeed, it may well be the case that the now institutional failure of the mainstream media to do its job with reasonable objectivity may itself be the cause of the incivility in political dialogue.
