No question blatant bias. They butcher and massage the news. Disgusting.
That's one of the reasons I started blogging. It came to the point that the only way you could find out what was going on in town was to read the letters to the editor--eventually those too were cut or chopped up beyond recognition. My experience was with the Wilmette Life, when they still had local editors. As I recall, during campaign season the editorial decisions were taken over by the leftist Evanston Review.
I've been blogging now for nearly 5 years. Since then the Pioneer Press papers have shrunk to a few, while the Sun Times is barely publishing these days.
And thankfully, as Pollak points out, there is a good online alternative for local news, Patch.com.
